WHEN IS IT ORDERED?

Do I really need the criminal offence MPU?

In criminal offence cases, the Führerscheinstelle examines your character-based fitness to drive. These are the situations that most often lead to an MPU: if you recognise yourself here, careful preparation is essential.

on the road

Aggression at the wheel

Coercion, tailgating, forcing others to brake, or threatening other road users: if you lost control in traffic, you need to show that you've regained it.

accident scene

Hit-and-run

Unlawfully leaving the scene of an accident carries serious weight. This is about responsibility, and about how you deal with mistakes today.

fitness to drive

Violent or aggression-related offences

Offences outside of traffic with a high level of aggression can also call your fitness to drive into question and lead to an MPU.

Does your case feel especially heavy? That's normal with criminal offence cases. Everything you share with us stays strictly confidential. And the earlier we start, the calmer and more confident you'll be going into the assessment.

TWO PATHS TO THE CRIMINAL OFFENCE MPU

What kind of offence are you dealing with?

There are two very different scenarios that lead to the criminal offence MPU, and the examiner looks at something different in each. We'll clarify together what matters most in your case during your free consultation.

MOST COMMON CASE

Traffic-related offences

Offences that happened directly in road traffic: from coercion to hit-and-run.

EXAMPLES
Coercion, hit-and-run, illegal street racing, driving without a licence.
WHAT THE EXAMINER CHECKS
Your impulse control in traffic and your willingness to respect the rules.
WHAT MATTERS MOST
A credible, honest engagement with the specific situation and what triggered it.
This applies to you if: the offence was directly related to driving, whether in the heat of the moment, out of stress, or thoughtlessness.

Offences with aggression potential

Offences outside of traffic too, which could point to an underlying aggression or impulse control issue.

EXAMPLES
Assault, threats, repeated violent offences.
WHAT THE EXAMINER CHECKS
Whether there's a general aggression issue and whether it affects your driving.
WHAT MATTERS MOST
Genuinely working through the underlying causes, with therapeutic support where needed.
This applies to you if: the offence had nothing to do with driving, but your fitness to drive was still called into question.
Not sure what matters most in your case?

Criminal offence cases are highly individual, generic answers don't help here. In your free, strictly confidential consultation, we'll look at your case together and find the path that's right for you.

  4. One-to-one preparation

  5. Simulation & MPU

A realistic mock interview takes away the fear. You'll go into the real assessment prepared and confident.

Gutachter fragt

What was going through your mind, what triggered it?

This is about your impulses and triggers in that moment. This self-reflection is the core thing we prepare with you, carefully.

Gutachter fragt

What has changed in how you deal with conflict?

What counts here isn't good intentions, but lived change. We make your development tangible with concrete examples.

Gutachter fragt

How do you make sure this doesn't happen again?

The examiner checks your relapse prevention and impulse control. We develop stable strategies that fit your life.

The criminal offence MPU: everything you need to know now

The MPU due to a criminal offence is fundamentally different from the alcohol, drugs, or points MPU. Here it's not about substances or violations, but about your character-based fitness to drive: whether you have your impulses under control and will behave responsibly and within the rules going forward.

Which offences can lead to an MPU?

Broadly speaking, there are two groups. First, traffic-related offences such as coercion, unlawfully leaving the scene of an accident (hit-and-run), illegal street racing, or driving without a licence. Second, offences with a high potential for aggression, including outside of traffic, such as assault or repeated violent offences, which raise doubts about fitness to drive.

Do I need to be abstinent for the criminal offence MPU?

Usually not. Unlike with alcohol or drugs, proof of abstinence isn't the focus here, it's the psychological processing of the offence, its triggers, and how you deal with conflict. Only if alcohol or drugs also played a role in your specific case might proof be required too: in that case, it's usually a combined assessment.

Why these cases are especially sensitive

Criminal offence cases involve very personal issues: shame, anger, loss of control, and often fear of being judged. That's why trust matters so much here. At ON-MPU, experienced traffic psychologists work with you, in strict confidence, without judgement, at your own pace.

Why professional preparation makes all the difference

According to official statistics, only around 37 % pass the MPU without preparation. With structured one-to-one preparation, ON-MPU's pass rate is over 94 %. Especially with criminal offence cases, what matters is whether you've truly understood your offence and can credibly convey your change. That's exactly what we work on with you. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS · CRIMINAL OFFENCE MPU

Everything you need to know.

The most important questions about the MPU due to criminal offences, answered honestly.

Which offences can lead to an MPU?

Mainly traffic-related offences such as coercion, hit-and-run, illegal street racing, or driving without a licence. But offences with a high potential for aggression outside of traffic, such as assault or repeated violent offences, can also call your fitness to drive into question.

Do I need to be abstinent for the criminal offence MPU?

Usually not, there's no proof of abstinence required. The focus is on the psychological processing of the offence, its triggers, and impulse control. Only if alcohol or drugs played a role might proof be required too.

Even for offences outside of traffic?

Yes. If an offence points to an underlying aggression or impulse control issue, such as assault or repeated violent offences, the Führerscheinstelle can call your fitness to drive into question even without a traffic connection.

How confidential is the preparation?

Completely confidential. Everything you share with your traffic psychologist stays between you, without judgement, at your own pace. This trust is the foundation of the process, especially in sensitive cases.

I've already failed the criminal offence MPU once. Do I still have a chance?

Yes. Usually a credible account of the offence and its triggers was missing. We analyse your report and build up your change step by step so it's easy to follow: many succeed on their second attempt.

Can I prepare for the criminal offence MPU online too?

Yes, around 90 % of our clients prepare entirely online, with the same qualified traffic psychologist as in person. Discreet, flexible, and with no travel needed.
